FAQs

The presence of a professionally installed and maintained intruder alarm in a commercial building is one of the most effective deterrents for would-be intruders. Unlike opportunistic residential burglaries, commercial break-ins are often planned, which means that trespassers will look for bell boxes and visible sensors ahead of time. When these features are present, criminals will likely move on to softer, less well protected sites, as they will not want to risk the possibility of getting caught.

An intruder alarm cannot be connected directly to the police upon installation. To receive a Level 1 Police Response, your system must be installed and maintained by an accredited provider, such as Clear Sound Fire & Security, who will apply for a Unique Reference Number (URN) on your behalf.

When this is set up and your alarm is triggered, the signal is sent to an Alarm Receiving Centre (ARC). The ARC staff will then perform a sequential verification, confirming two or more sensors have triggered, to filter out false alarms, before requesting immediate police dispatch to your building.

The amount you pay for your intruder alarm will be dictated by the grade of the system and the number of detection zones. At Clear Sound Fire & Security, we install alarm systems from grades 1 to 4, providing solutions for everything from low-risk properties to high-value sites.

For a typical audio-only alarm setup (suitable for an office or small retail unit), we typically charge £900+; for a monitored system system with a police response (suitable for large warehouses or high-value retail spaces), our initial installation costs begin at £1200+, with monitoring and maintenance options.

Regardless of what you choose, all Clear Sound burglar alarm installations meet the strict BS EN 50131 standards required by commercial insurers.

In accordance with the terms of the Environmental Protection Act, external commercial sounders must be programmed to cut off after a maximum of 20 minutes. However, in some cases, internal sirens may sound longer to prompt intruders to leave the building. External strobe lighting may also continue to flash until the system is reset, which is useful in helping relevant authorities identify the correct building in the event of a break-in.

If your business alarm sounds for longer than 20 minutes, this can indicate a battery backup failure or a control panel fault that requires immediate attention from an trained engineer.
