Do burglars care about alarms?

Yes, alarm systems can deter burglars from targeting a home. The loud noise from the alarms effectively brings unwanted attention to the properties – Although the noise from an alarm may be ignored by neighbours/passers by etc, intruders cannot be sure this will be the case, and will not want to risk getting caught.

Do house alarms use much electricity?

You’ll be pleased to hear that, no, house alarms use up minimal electricity. The best smart alarms require around 7-8 watts of power to run and, generally speaking, will use around 60-70 kWh of electricity per year.

Do burglar alarm systems notify Police?

Alarm systems cannot be connected directly to the Police. If you require a Police response to your burglar alarm, your installer must be accredited by either the NSI or SSAIB. Your accredited installer then applies to the Police for a URN (unique reference number) on your behalf. This URN allows you to receive a Police response if your alarm activates. The alarm signals are first sent to an Alarm Receiving Centre, which will then make a quick verification check before notifying the authorities.
